(ANSA) – TURIN, MARCH 19 – The University of Turin will not participate in the 2024 call by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the collection of collaboration projects between Italian and Israeli research institutions. This was decided by the Academic Senate, which voted by majority (one vote against and two abstentions) on a motion which deems participation in the Maeci call to be inappropriate, given the continuation of the war situation in Gaza. The vote took place at the end of an assembly held in the Great Hall of the Rectorate between the senators and students of the ‘Cambiare Rotta’ and ‘Progetto Palestina’ collective, who this morning had asked for a discussion on the topic, interrupting a session of the Academic Senate. The request was to join an open letter signed by over 1,600 teachers from all over Italy, including 60 from Turin, asking for the suspension of the tender. “The protest won the public debate in the great hall between the student community and the academic senate, obtaining the blocking of the participation of the University of Turin in the Maeci 2024 tender – say the militants of Cambiare Rotta – An important victory that we will try to obtain also in the other universities in the country to dismantle piece by piece the complicity of Italian universities with the Zionist entity”.
