The rise in averages, even if motivated by the pandemic, had another effect. The number of courses where the last entry grade was below 10 values was less than in the previous year: 13 against 26 courses in 2019. When accessing a higher education course, there can be no negatives and, therefore, no student can enter a course. score below 95 points (average of nine and a half).
If last year there were 21 polytechnics and 5 universities on that list, this year only the first appear. Moreover, there is no other visible trend and courses with lower averages are as disparate as Agronomy at Escola Superior Agrária de Santarém (Polytechnic of Santarém) or Biomedical Laboratory Sciences at Escola Superior de Saúde de Bragança (Politécnico de Bragança). In both cases, the last entry note was 9.9 points.
There are also courses such as Basic Education at the Polytechnic of Guarda (9.85), Veterinary Nursing at the Escola Superior Agrária de Elvas (9.8) or Solicitor in distance learning regime (9.7 values) at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.
At the limit, with the 9.5 values, there are 8 courses: in the Polytechnic of Beja, the courses in Social Work and Business Management, in post-employment regime, in the Polytechnic of Bragança, Social Education and the Multimedia. In the same list are also Technologies and Multimedia Design (Viseu), Secretariat (Castelo Branco), Restoration and Catering (Guarda) and Environment Design (Viana do Castelo).
The results of the 1st phase of the national access contest were announced at 00:01 on Sunday, September 27, on the Directorate-General for Higher Education, although it is usual, a few hours before, students receive messages from DGES, by sms or by email, with the announcement of the institution and the course in which they were placed.
In addition to the individual data provided by DGES, you can also consult the table that the Observer provides, confirming the average of the last student to enter each course. If you have not entered, know that the 2nd phase of the competition takes place from September 28 to October 9, with at least 6,050 places available.
This number may still rise as this year, due to the large increase in the number of candidates, higher education institutions can increase this value by transferring fixed and unoccupied places in special access competitions.
