At least three people have been killed in a shooting at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. More people may have been injured. The suspect has died, Las Vegas police said.
“At this time we know there are three victims,” Las Vegas police wrote on X. That number could increase, according to police. It is unclear what injuries the victims suffered.
It is also unknown what condition the victims are in. At least some people have been transported to local hospitals, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference Wednesday.
The suspect in the shooting has died. According to the police, there is no further threat. “An investigation is ongoing,” McMahill said.

Identity and motive of shooter not yet known
The incident took place around noon (local time) in Beam Hall, a campus building. About twenty minutes after the incident, the university reported that shots had been fired in another building on campus, the Student Union.
The university called on students and staff to leave the area. A so-called ‘run-hide-fight’ protocol was also issued. This is a common protocol in the United States when a shooter is active.
Within about half an hour, Las Vegas police reported that the suspect had been located and deceased. Nothing is yet known about the identity and motive of the shooter. It is also still unclear how the suspect died. The police strongly urge people to avoid the area.
The university will keep its doors closed for the rest of the day. Other universities in the American state of Nevada will also remain closed on Wednesday. Lectures and events have been cancelled.
The University of Nevada is less than 2 miles east of the Las Vegas strip.
