University of Michigan Survey: American Household Morale Rises in October, Beating Forecast

October 27 (Reuters) – American household morale rose above the initially estimated figure in October, the final results of the monthly survey from the University of Michigan showed on Friday.

Its confidence index stands at 63.8 this month after 68.1 in September. Economists and analysts polled by Reuters on average forecast a figure of 63, as in the first estimate.

The component of consumers’ judgment of their current situation came to 70.6, after 66.7 in the first estimate and 71.4 the previous month.

That of the outlook stood at 59.3 compared to 60.7 in the first estimate and 66.0 previously.

Inflation expectations for one year stood at 4.2% compared to 3.8% in the first estimate, while those for a five-year horizon remained stable at 3%. (Written by Corentin Chappron, edited by Kate Entringer)
