The University of Cologne and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem want to prepare teachers for anti-Semitism education together. To commemorate the November pogroms, the partners will sign a corresponding cooperation agreement in a digital ceremony next Wednesday, as announced by the Cologne University of Applied Sciences.
The collaboration extends an existing project in which Cologne students can get to know different formats for working against anti-Semitism. With Cologne, a third German university will become a cooperation partner of the memorial.
Partner “The University of Cologne attaches great importance to research that promotes democracy and reveals conspiracy fantasies, anti-Semitism and hatred,” said Rector Axel Freimuth. “With Yad Vashem we now have a strong partner with whom we can shape an inclusive and democratic future.” The director of the International School for Holocaust Studies (ISHS) in Yad Vashem, Eyal Kaminka, emphasized the ongoing historical significance and relevance of the Holocaust for students and teachers. The cooperation with the University of Cologne enables questions about racism, anti-Semitism and lasting responsibility to be dealt with.
The concept of Yad Vashem focuses on individual stories of Jews, according to the university. Dealing with the history of individuals should make it easier for learners to access the topic. kna
