A building of the University of Caen, which was occupied by protesters since March 6, was evacuated by the police on Monday. And this Tuesday, the management deplored “considerable degradation”.
The president of the university, Lamri Adoui, justified the intervention of the police by a series of incidents: “a university agent molested, a law student injured in a stampede (three weeks’ arrest), the ransacking of false fireproof ceilings, a break-in in an asbestos room, sawn barriers and studs, despite the promise made on March 8 not to damage the buildings”. Photos sent by the university management show tagged walls, false ceilings, several doors, a partition and a broken vending machine, damage which will generate “at least one million euros” of work according to Lamri Adoui.
Gathered to fight against the retirement law, the occupants had subsequently broadened their demands: “feminist, anti-capitalist, LGBTQI + causes, student precariousness, asbestos removal from the university, disabled access”…
