Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) – A total of around 41,800 students enrolled for the first time at the Hessian universities in the 2020 academic year. This corresponds to a decrease of 3.4 percent year-on-year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday in Wiesbaden.
The number of foreign freshmen has decreased by almost a fifth (18.7 percent). The number of German students in the first semester, on the other hand, remained almost unchanged compared to 2019, the statisticians found. The sharpest falls were among freshmen from China and the United States. This development is related to the corona pandemic.
