Universities – Neubrandenburg – University of Applied Sciences Neubrandenburg: Stable number of freshmen – education

Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) – Despite the Corona restrictions, the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences has been able to roughly keep the number of its freshmen. As her spokesman Andre Hesse-Witt said on Wednesday, 584 young women and men have started a new course in Neubrandenburg so far, almost 20 fewer than in 2019 for the autumn semester. With due regard for the strict hygiene standards in connection with the corona pandemic, the events for the “newcomers” would largely be maintained. “We want to introduce young people to the course and encourage them to bond.”

The Neubrandenburg campus is characterized by short distances and small study groups, explained the spokesman. Except for laboratory work, the lectures and learning events in the higher semesters were mainly online. With around 2200 students, Neubrandenburg is one of four universities in the northeast. The Mecklenburg Lake District has one of the lowest incidence values in Germany with a weekly rate of around 30 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

57 percent of the new students come from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 18 percent from Berlin and Brandenburg and a quarter from other federal states such as Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein; there are also 30 freshmen from abroad.

33 courses of study can be taken in Neubrandenburg, including surveying technology, health and care sciences, agriculture, landscape maintenance and design as well as early childhood education. Stralsund and the music and theater college in Rostock are similar in size, and the Wismar University is somewhat larger.
