Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) – The University of Neubrandenburg will receive money for additional staff in research and teaching. After a selection process, it belongs to 64 universities of applied sciences nationwide that are funded as part of the federal-state program “FH-Personal”, as the Ministry of Education announced on Friday. The university is expected to receive 1.2 million euros over six years to attract additional academic staff.
Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) said that the universities of applied sciences were facing major challenges in recruiting qualified staff, especially in rural and structurally weaker areas. The program offers the opportunity to lead young academics to the threshold of professorship and, if the course goes well, to keep them at the university and in the region.
Around 2,200 students are currently enrolled at the Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences in the four courses of study: Agriculture and Food Sciences, Landscape Sciences and Geomatics, Social Work, Education and Training, and Health, Care and Management. Research focuses on the areas of health and nutrition as well as structural change and restructuring of rural regions.
