Munich (dpa / lby) – The Corona restrictions have put the Bavarian universities before the start of the winter semester with hurdles. Although up to 200 students may take part in face-to-face events, there are hardly any rooms that allow this number of students while observing the minimum distance. This was the result of a survey by the German Press Agency among ten universities in the Free State. Although freshmen should be given preference at on-site events, many introductory events have to take place online because of the high number of students.

“Even in our largest inner-city lecture hall, only about 77 people fit with a minimum distance of 1.50 meters,” said Oliver Jahraus, Vice President of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU). With more than 50,000 students, the LMU is the largest face-to-face university in the Free State.

Due to the increased space requirement, the Technical University of Munich has had several tents set up for courses on the campus, some of which can hold around 190 people. The lectures are to be broadcast in three lecture halls at the same time.
