Universities limit enrollment prices for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees next year with the objection of the Basque Country

The Ministry of Universities will limit the public prices of university fees for the next academic year 2021/2022. The proposal of the Department headed by Manuel Castells was addressed this Monday at the General Conference on University Policy.

As sources from this department have informed Europa Press, during the meeting, they asked whether there was any objection to this measure, the Basque Country being the only region that has spoken out, recalling that it had already opposed it last year. past.

The measure agreed today supposes an extension of the conditions approved in the plenary session of the General Conference of University Policy of May 27, 2020 of the public prices in second, third, fourth enrollment of Bachelor’s degrees and non-qualifying Masters for the 2021/2022 academic year .

At that time, five regions voted against this proposal: the Basque Country and the four that govern the PP and Cs (Andalusia, Castilla y León, Madrid and Murcia).

Thus, the maximum prices of the studies leading to obtaining the official Bachelor’s degree, in second and successive enrollments, are set in force in the 2020/2021 academic year in each autonomous community for each type of experimentation that they have established.

Likewise, the autonomous communities may set the price of the studies leading to the obtaining of official Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, in first and successive enrollments, for national students of countries not belonging to the European Union as they consider appropriate, bearing in mind that is established as the maximum value those in force for this type of student body in the 2020/2021 academic year.

This measure agreed on Monday is in addition to the one approved last Wednesday, March 29 of this year, also at the proposal of the Ministry of Universities, to establish the equalization of the prices of first registration of the qualifying Master’s degrees and linked to the average prices of the first degree registration for the academic year 2022/2023.

GALICIA, WHERE CHEAPEST TO STUDY

According to a report from the Ministry of Universities, during this 2020/2021 academic year, the average price per credit in undergraduate degrees in first enrollment fell by more than 7.6%, from 18.61 euros in the previous year to 17, 18 euros.

By Autonomous Community, the average price of the Grade credit in first enrollment is highest in the Community of Madrid (23.17 euros). At the other extreme is Galicia (11.78 euros per credit).

Regarding non-qualifying Master’s degrees, during the 2020/2021 academic year, the average price of the credit in first enrollment decreased by more than 4% compared to the previous year, from 35.53 euros the credit to 33.99 euros.

By autonomous communities, the majority maintained the prices of the previous year this academic year, with the exception of Galicia and Catalonia, which lowered them by 50% and 15% approximately with respect to the 2019/2020 academic year, respectively. The highest price is reached by the Community of Madrid (52.29 euros). At the opposite extreme is Galicia, with a loan of 11.87 euros.

With regard to the prices of the qualifying Master’s degrees, the average price of the credit in first registration is 22.48 euros. Castilla y León is the community where credit is most expensive in the first registration, with 31.14 euros, compared to 10.98 euros in Galicia.
