Gütersloh / Berlin (dpa / bb) – In the past winter semester, one in twenty of the approximately 190,000 students in Berlin studied part-time. With this rate, the capital is in ninth place nationwide, as a study published on Tuesday by the Center for University Development (CHE) in Gütersloh shows.
The highest share of around 21 percent was reached in Hamburg, the national average was 7.5 percent. Berlin increased its quota slightly compared to the previous year – from 5.0 to 5.1 percent.
The number of part-time courses on offer also increased – by eleven to 209. With a rate of 18.6 percent, Berlin also ranks ninth here in the country ranking. The Saarland lies ahead. A good two thirds of all courses there (67.1 percent) can be completed part-time.
According to the study, there are 26 universities in Berlin, each of which has more than one percent of students studying part-time. At the Quadriga University, the FOM University and the German Open Business School for Business and Administration, only part-time students are enrolled.
Nationwide, the proportion reached a peak. But unlike in the case of employed people, where the proportion is around a third, this model has not yet been established. According to the CHE, this is due to the framework conditions and the limited range of courses.
