A new campaign for universal application of the vaccine is expected for September, with an application strategy for girls from the fifth and sixth year of primary school and women diagnosed with HIV.
In the last year, 32,000 girls aged 12 and 13 from all over the state have been vaccinated against HPV, reported Silvano Ramírez Soto, Head of the Department of Communicable Diseases of the State Health Secretariat, who stressed that there is sufficient vaccine and work will be done on the universal vaccination strategy for girls from the fifth year of primary school.
Silvano Ramírez Soto, said that in recent years there had been a global shortage, therefore the little that was found was at a very high price, which forced the governments of many countries to suspend the universal vaccination strategy.
Since 2019 there was a recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO) that the vaccine will be available in the public sector in several countries around the world, including all of Latin America, but in 2020 the pandemic situation was experienced, which forced to suspend this project, and after this one; vaccination strategies were reactivated.
At a general level, the state of Durango is in the 10th place in the country in percentage of vaccinated women, with more than 32 thousand doses applied in the last year, “in this case girls from 12 to 13 years of age were vaccinated age, or who are in their first and second year of high school, this is the campaign that has been followed up since September of last year”.
He pointed out that in September of this year the campaign will restart, but now the age for the application will be lowered from the fifth year of primary school, since the intention is to protect them in childhood, so that when they start their sexual life, they have everything their complete scheme regarding HPV, and they do not have the possibility of developing the disease in the cervix, in the cervix, where it manifests itself the most, and that in their adult life they do not develop cervical cancer.
“When the strategy is stopped since 2018, a dose recovery has to be made, so the girls who were not vaccinated in 2019 and 2020 are those who, when the campaign restarted last year, were already 12 or 13 years old. age, and they were already in the first and second year of high school,” he pointed out.
