The film about the life of singer Britney Spears will hit the big screen after Universal Studios acquired the rights to the memoirs published by the singer in 2023 and which became an immediate best-seller, with more than 2.5 million copies sold in the United States.
American director Jon Chu, who directed the successful ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018) and who will release this year the first part of the long-awaited adaptation of the musical ‘Wicked’, will be behind the cameras, while Marc Platt will be in charge of the production of the future film.
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies…stay tuned,” the ‘Baby One More Time’ singer wrote today on her X account.
By acquiring the rights to the memoir, Universal is playing it safe, especially after the book’s shocking revelations, including that the Grammy winner had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake.
The audiobook of this publication, read by actress Michelle Williams, was the most listened to in 2023 on the Spotify platform and holds the record for the fastest sales in the history of the Simon & Schuster label.
