Herman Lavalle, deputy general manager of Farmacia Universal, told gestion.pe that the company plans to expand to Lima and its province by 2023 and is already in the “evaluation of new points” phase.
“For this 2023, Universal Pharmacy has the following goals: double the growth expected for this year in the e-commerce channel, (they currently offer only 10% of its product portfolio in this channel), gradually expand its headquarters nationwide and offer new solutions to customers to facilitate their purchases, with new vending machines”indicated.
He also indicated that the long-term goal is to grow in the provinces given the unmet need.
“Universal Pharmacy It envisages expansion into various regions of the country through a 5-year nationwide growth process. He is currently considering entering the north of the country”, Lavalle advanced.

The executive also referred to the sales that have been recorded so far this year. He specified that of the total number of locations, those that concentrate the largest number of sales are located in the premises of Cercado de Lima, Chacarilla, San Borja and Jesús María.
However, he indicated that – considering the situation of the surges due to COVID-19 – the sales volume for the pharmaceutical sector has decreased compared to 2021. “This year we try to maintain the turnover achieved throughout 2021”.
“The landscape of the pharmaceutical sector is increasingly challenging, therefore, we have a growth expectation of 10% for 2023 compared to 2022; which will be supported by its wide variety of products and services, as well as personalized attention in all stores”Lavallo said.

In regards to the items that drove sales growth, Universal Pharmacy’s deputy general manager said the drugs category continues to lead the growth. However, “Measurement category, senior care products and natural products are also very popular with consumers”.
In this sense, he specified that the natural products category continues with great growth and acceptance so far in 2022. As mentioned, last year the company launched Thani, a range of products that offers oils and vinegars, cocoa, sweetener and sweeteners , flours, infusions, vegetable milks, honeys and syrups, salts and snacks.
