The songs of numerous music stars who have contracts with Universal Music Group have already begun to disappear from TikTok.
Among them are names like Taylor Swift, Drake, Ariana Grande and U2, among an extensive list of artists who have been fundamental to the growth of the social network.
The above, because users share videos with their topics, records that can even go viral.
The decision came after representatives of the label accused that TikTok did not pay enough for access to these songs.
Along with this, they criticized that the network was “flooded with recordings generated by artificial intelligence.”
“TikTok’s tactics are obvious: using the power of its platform to harm vulnerable artists and trying to intimidate us into accepting a bad business that undervalues music and defrauds artists and songwriters, as well as their fans,” they said from Universal.
After they could not reach an agreement, the social network had to remove the songs of the label’s artists from its library.
This also implies that they cannot be used to generate videos.
For its part, TikTok said in a statement on Tuesday that Universal seeks to put “its own greed above the interests of its artists and composers.”
Likewise, they accused that the label had chosen to “move away from the powerful support of a platform with more than one billion users, which serves as a free vehicle for the promotion and discovery of its talent.”
