Universal health coverage: people on dialysis will save 505,000 FCFA each year

Six months after its official launch on April 12, 2023 in the Eastern region, the CSU has 1,052,849 people definitively enrolled.

Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health (Minsante) took stock of the operationalization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Cameroon, six months after its launch. It was Wednesday October 4, 2023 in Yaoundé.

From his exchange with the press, the government member noted several difficulties linked to the implementation of this project. He mentioned, among other things: the insufficient financial resources for the implementation of certain monitoring activities; the difficulties in complying with the disbursement plan drawn up by the Minister of Finance (Minfi), Louis Paul Motaze.

In addition to the timid start of certain regions in the enrollment process, Manaouda Malachie also mentioned the absence of administrative documents; non-compliance with the provision of care and services initially announced; the use of unqualified health personnel; an obsolete technical platform among other things.

Six months after its official launch on April 12, 2023 in the Eastern region, the CSU has 1,052,849 people definitively enrolled. According to figures given by Minsante, there are 1,684,720 pre-enlisted people; 1,052,849 people definitively enrolled. We also learn from figures from Manaouda Malachie that 98% of people on dialysis have already paid the annual 15,000 FCFA required to benefit from free services throughout the year.

Other good points, people on dialysis constitute, according to the government, a target of this CSU which allows them to make a saving of 505,000 FCFA which had to be paid for sessions during the year. “With a health check of 6,000 FCFA paid, pregnant women are supported during prenatal consultations, childbirth, even in the event of a complication or cesarean section, as well as their newborn until 42 days of age. life” indicated Minsante.

In addition to children aged 0 to 5 years who must benefit from free consultations for all illnesses and treatment for simple or severe malaria, people living with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis will also have their treatment covered.
