The World Health Organization will hold the first global meeting on oral health with the aim of accelerating progress towards universal health coverage in oral health by 2030. The meeting will be hosted by the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand from Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 November 2024. , in Bangkok, Thailand.
The overall objective of the WHO World Meeting on Oral Health is to reaffirm the political commitment of Member States based on… 2021 World Health Assembly resolution on oral health (pp. 74-5) and accelerate and strengthen national efforts to prevent and control non-communicable diseases, with a focus on oral diseases, to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. In addition, Meeting World Oral Health contributes to the preparation process that guides. up to Fourth United Nations high-level meeting on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases It is scheduled to be held in 2025.
The WHO global meeting on oral health includes a three-day technical meeting involving WHO, heads of national oral health programmes, heads of national programs on universal health coverage and invited experts, followed by a high-level panel -half day rate. discussion bringing health ministers and senior leaders from departments together to discuss and reaffirm their commitments to support implementation Global action plan for oral health 2023-2030 and National Oral Health Roadmaps. A number of side events will be organized along the line of the meeting.
It is expected that approximately 400 participants will attend the meeting in person.
Reason From the meeting
As part of the preparatory processes leading up to the Fourth United Nations Conference on Non-Communicable Diseases to be held in 2025, the WHO Global Meeting on Oral Health aims to:
- Strengthen the capacity of the ministry of health to fulfill the commitments made in the 2021 resolution of the World Health Assembly on oral health (PP74-5);
- Accelerate the implementation of the Global Action Plan for Oral Health 2023-2030 within the framework of broader plans for non-communicable diseases and universal health coverage.
Achieving goals
- Reaffirming the commitments of Member States to implement the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
- Consider the six strategic goals, 100 actions, eleven global targets and monitoring framework that make up the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
- Bringing together governments, UN agencies, multilateral and funding agencies, civil society organizations, people affected by non-communicable diseases, academia, philanthropic organizations and foundations to celebrate collaboration in being supporting the implementation of the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
Expected results
- National roadmaps for oral health according to the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
- The Bangkok Declaration on Oral Health has been agreed by the Member States and affirms commitment to oral health and informs the preparation of the WHO Director-General’s report to the fourth United Nations high-level meeting on non-communicable diseases to be held in 2025.
- Create a global alliance on oral health that includes a package of commitments from member states and partners to support the implementation of the Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030.
- Preparing a report on the meeting including recommendations that will highlight the ability of countries to achieve universal health coverage in oral health.
