“Unity Cheer and Dance Club Takes Gold in French National Cheerleading Championships”

They worked all year for this title, like the five other qualified teams. Athletes from the Unity Cheer and Dance club kept their promise by taking the top step of the national podium this weekend.

Cheerleading, a discipline born in the United States, combines songs, acrobatics, jumps, lifts and dance. Each year, the French teams participate in qualifications for each zone to reach the national final.

At the end of the qualifications last March, three teams from the Saint-Etienne club Unity Cheer and Dance were qualified for the final in Vendée: a minimal team, a junior and a senior team at the advanced level.

One silver and one gold

The sixty or so athletes embarked on this adventure last weekend. After the silver medal won by the junior intermediate team on Saturday 27 May and the sixth place finish for the junior novices the next morning, the seniors took to the floor in the afternoon for the first time in the advanced level.

Already champions of France last year in the lower category, the two former merged teams represented the club at Mouilleron-le-Captif in Vendée. After an almost error-free choreography, the 23 athletes, accompanied by their four coaches, were invited to come to the center for the announcement of the results of the three steps of the podium. And the result fell: the club from Saint-Etienne is champion of France in this category.
