It might as well not have happened. Because Noa (24) did not have to speak to Selma (25) that evening in Amsterdam, four days after Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel. But she did. What is it like for you on the street, with your headscarf? Noa herself often visibly wears a name necklace in Hebrew and she has felt extra watched since October 7.
Selma didn’t have to answer in detail, but she did. Even when Boaz (24), like Noa, active in the Jewish community, joined us. And while demonstrations were taking place elsewhere in the Netherlands and all nuance was suppressed by hostility on social media, a conversation actually emerged.
