New York’s Metropolitan Opera declared the target of a cyber attack on Thursday. It hampered the functioning of its website, ticket office and call center.
The prestigious opera house in America’s arts and culture megacity said its “network problems” began on Thursday. Concretely, the scheduled performances will take place but orders for new tickets, exchanges and refunds are not possible for the moment, according to Met Opera.
The institution in an upscale north Manhattan neighborhood declined to explain the nature of the cyberattack and did not respond to AFP’s inquiries. The specialized media OperaWire, citing a letter from the director general of the Met Opera Peter Gelb to members of the institute, specifies that an investigation is underway.
For years, cyberattacks have targeted businesses, public and private institutions, and government departments in the United States and many foreign countries. The latest incident in France, the Versailles hospital near Paris has been targeted since December 3 by a cyber attack which has forced it to transfer several patients.
The House of Representatives in Washington on Thursday passed a national defense bill, contributing tens of millions of dollars to strengthen cybersecurity.
