Like other American metropolises, New York has seen an upsurge in crime targeting people of Asian descent in recent months, largely fueled by former President Donald Trump.
On Monday, a 65-year-old woman of Asian origin was severely beaten in a street in the heart of Manhattan by a man who kicked her several times in the head.
Police say the man used anti-Asian slurs against the 60-year-old.
The video also shows two men watching the scene from inside the building, closing the door after the assailant leaves, apparently doing nothing to help the victim on the ground.
The assaulted woman was hospitalized with a broken pelvis and multiple injuries, but was in stable condition on Tuesday.
Wanted notice launched
The video of the attack, taken by surveillance cameras shortly before noon from inside a building near Times Square, was posted on Twitter on Tuesday by the New York police, who launched a search notice .

The investigation is entrusted to the unit specializing in racist crimes. She is still looking for another man who hit a woman in a Manhattan subway station on Saturday night, after covering her with anti-Asian slurs. She did not suffer a serious injury.
“It has to stop”
“Violence against the Asian community is unfortunately becoming an epidemic in our state and our country, it must stop,” said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio denounced a “horrific” attack and called on anyone who witnessed such violence to “literally scream” to “disturb” the attacker and “attract attention.”
