Spencer Elden, the naked baby on Nirvana’s album cover, Nevermind, decided to file a complaint for child pornography ad Variety.
The album cover Nevermind, of Nirvana is legendary! Released in 1991, a baby appears on the jacket, naked in a swimming pool in front of a ticket hanging on a fishing rod. Problem, the toddler is now an adult! Tuesday, August 24, Spencer Elden decided to file a complaint for child pornography in Los Angeles, in the United States reports BFMTV which quotes the site Variety.
“A life of suffering”.
The American accuses the members of Nirvana and the record companies of having, by using this photo, violated several federal laws relating to child pornography, and of having caused him “a life of suffering”. In defense of the man, the image goes beyond child pornography, writing that the inclusion of currency in the photo makes the baby appear “like a sex worker.”
Lawyers for Spencer Elden say the parents never signed a waiver allowing the use of this photo of their baby, when he was 4 months old. They also add that he never received any financial compensation.
He is now claiming 150,000 dollars (approximately 128,000 euros) from each of the 17 accused.
In 2016, he celebrated the cover
In 2016, for the album’s 25th anniversary, Spencer Elden had reproduced the cult photo – without a ticket hanging from a fishing rod, and with a swimsuit and “Nevermind” tattooed on his chest.
“This birthday is important to me. It’s cool and at the same time strange to tell me that this photo that I took when I was four months old has become an iconic image for a whole generation”, he commented from the New York Post.
