JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – US military ships fired 30 warning shots at 13 Iranian ships sailing in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, Monday (10/5/2021).
The warning shots were fired because the ship belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC-N) sailed too close to the seven US Navy submarines and a number of other ships accompanying it for a distance of 140 meters.
The spokesman for the US Defense Ministry, John Kirby, explained that the Strait of Hormuz is a narrow water area so that the maneuvering of the Iranian ship is considered dangerous.
“This is an international waterway and of course when you are in the strait, you have limited maneuverability. The area is a small gap in the area so such dangerous, unsafe and unprofessional maneuvers are very dangerous,” said Kirby. AFP, Tuesday (11/5/2021).
Kirby said this activity could make people hurt and lead to miscalculations.
“It is very unsafe, unprofessional. This is the type of activity that can make people hurt, and can lead to miscalculations in the area,” Kirby said. AFP, Tuesday (11/5/2021).
