The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new list of updated vaccines against the K2 strain, a variant of Omicron, which causes Covid-19.
“The variant that has been seen does communicate, it does pass from person to person, a little more easily than in the past,” explained epidemiologist Bertha Hidalgo in statements to the Voice of America.
The update of the anti-Covid vaccine doses will apply only to products from the Pfizer and Moderna laboratories. So far, no decision has been made on the Novavax vaccines.

In recent weeks, there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases. However, experts clarify that an increase in mortality has not been observed. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people over 65 years of age and those with pre-existing medical conditions get vaccinated.
Dr. Carlos Riveros, an internal medicine specialist, points out that the guidelines of the health organization consider that anyone with a weakened immune system qualifies to receive this vaccine. “For example, people who are undergoing treatment for cancer, diabetics, heart problems, etc. All of them should take precautions,” he added.
Doctors also warn that, as seen in previous years, the cold season coincides with the appearance of other viruses, so we must not let our guard down.
“We are always going to have more influenza, more respiratory viruses, with greater transmission around this time. And not just Covid-19, but also respiratory syncytial virus, influenza and common flu as well,” he said.
For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other entities insist on the importance of getting vaccinated against both influenza and Covid-19. This is the most effective way to protect yourself during the fall and winter months.

“In the future, we anticipate that there will be one vaccine that covers multiple viruses, but for now, this year, there are two vaccines. One for each virus. And it is recommended that you get both,” said Dr. Hidalgo.
In conclusion, the doctors consulted by the VOA agree on the importance of generating confidence in vaccines. “They are safe and have proven to be effective in controlling the virus,” concluded Dr. Riveros.
