An incident occurred late Thursday on a California beach.
A small plane crashed on the crowded beach near the famous Santa Monica pier, killing the city’s former mayor…
Rex Minter, 95, was the sole occupant of the aircraft, a single-engine Cessna, which we see in the videos, flying over the beach before crashing into the sand after an attempted forced landing.
According to the TMZ website, the plane made a distress call shortly after takeoff and the pilot indicated that it was attempting to land on sand which seemed, according to him, the only possible option.

The incident has caused a wave of excitement, the beach is crowded for this time of year and while day-trippers enjoy the rather mild US weather these days.
Rex Minter served as mayor of the city between 1963 and 1967 before becoming a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.
