A woman 57-year-old gave birth to her third child and has become the oldest woman to give birth naturally in the state of New Hampshire, in the United States, according to Today.
Barbara Higgins can only laugh when she remembers people’s reactions when she told them she was pregnant at 57. “I did not tell anyone about my pregnancy until 20 weeks, more or less,” said the mother to surprise everyone, and boy did she.
Higgins described how the experience of having a child as he approaches 60 years. “Actually, in many ways, I think it’s easier.”, He said.
So Barbara finally gave birth to Jack naturally on March 20 at Concord Hospital. However, the arrival of this baby stemmed from a family tragedy.
His daughter Molly passed away suddenly at age 13 in 2016 from complications of an undetected brain tumor. In the wake of Molly’s death, Higgins began dreaming of another baby.
“It wasn’t a super specific dream, but I would wake up with this compelling feeling that I need to call the doctor today, I need to work on this, I need to start this process.”
Higgins was able to get pregnant through in vitro fertilization. “Actually, for me, the process was one relatively easy step after another,” he said. “I know it is not like that for all women, but for me the path just presented itself,” she added.
“It has been a great trip. It has been wonderful ”. Higgins has been dedicated to fitness her entire life and was even lifting weights the day labor began.
Barbara and her husband Ken admitted that some people questioned their decision. However, none of that matters because they are happy with their baby and their oldest daughter Gracie, 20 years old.
