The first international forum of United Russia “For the Freedom of Nations” brought together more than 400 representatives of leading political forces and organizations from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and the CIS. On the first day of the forum, its participants met with the chairman of the party Dmitry Medvedev the secretary of the General Council Andrey Turchak the deputy chairman of the party’s international affairs committee Andrey Klimov and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Ivanov .
“The circle of our supporters has expanded significantly. “Many of those present know first-hand what modern practices of enslavement and neo-colonial habits are present in international life,” said party chairman Dmitry Medvedev, opening the meeting.
He said that before the plenary session to be held on February 16, four panel discussions were held. They were devoted to the political, legal, financial and economic aspects of countering neo-colonialism, the destructive manifestations of neo-colonialism in the information space, the humanitarian sphere and the methods of international socio-political consolidation in the fight against the contemporary practices of neo-colonialism.
“Particular attention was paid to the forms and methods of countermeasures and attempts at external interference in the affairs of sovereign states. Ideas were expressed that should be taken into account when preparing the final document of the founding meeting of our forum,” noted Dmitry Medvedev.
The party chairman also suggested that the final document should reflect the need to continue working to free full states from the legacy of colonial rule.
“For this purpose, it is planned to create a world movement in which, if necessary, responsible political parties, public structures, experts and business representatives will participate,” emphasized Dmitry Medvedev.
According to him, the party will hold a meeting of the standing committee of the forum “For the Freedom of Peoples” in July in Vladivostok. It will coincide with the inter-party conference of BRICS, which United Russia plans to organize as part of the Russian chairmanship of this association.
Dmitry Medvedev said United Russia continues to receive applications for membership in the forum’s organizing committee. For example, the representative of the Serbian People’s Party, Mr. Nenad Popovic, became a new member of the organizing committee.
In conclusion, Dmitry Medvedev proposed that meetings of the forum be held once every two years.
