On the 30th (local time), UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was “deeply concerned” about the ongoing situation at risk of halting the Black Sea grain export agreement to allow Ukraine to export grain.
UN spokesman Stephan Dujarik said in a statement that Guterres expressed concern over Russia’s announcement the day before that it would not participate in the Black Sea grain export agreement.
Russia has announced that it will not participate in the deal as Ukrainian forces have used drones to attack the Black Sea fleet stationed in the Crimea.
If Russia withdraws from the deal, Ukrainian grain exports will be blocked again.
Secretary General Guterres, who entered into the wheat export agreement in July, “is engaged in intense contacts with the aim of withdrawing the Russian declaration of termination of participation,” Dujarik said.
To focus on the issue, Secretary General Guterres postponed his participation in the Arab League summit in Algeria by one day.
