Iran says it has started enriching uranium at the Fordow reactor near the central city of Qom and that the level of enrichment is up to 60% purity, close to the purity needed to make weapons.
He also announced the construction of a new series of centrifuges at the site.
This comes in the aftermath of the publication of a report condemning Tehran, issued by the Board of Governors of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency, for failing to cooperate sufficiently with its ongoing investigation into the collection of the necessary guarantees to revive the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.
The IAEA board has called on Iran to cooperate urgently, but its report is likely to make talks between world powers and Iran more difficult to revive the deal after it becomes a stumbling block in its I walk.
In the confrontation, Iranian official media released on Tuesday morning said that Iran is complying with the requests of the United Nations and is cooperating with the organization’s investigation into uranium traces found at three unauthorized sites.
Under the deal, Iran can only enrich uranium to just over 3.5%, well below the 90% enrichment threshold needed for a nuclear weapon.
Interestingly, Iran had promised retaliatory measures against the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
