United Nations Day celebrated under the sign of peace and sustainable development | www.l-integration.com – INTEGRATION

Ph:DR: The United Nations intends to work to address existing challenges

Deputy Special Representative Ag Ayoya reiterated the United Nations’ willingness to work with the government to address existing challenges. The Central African Republic celebrated the 78th United Nations Day on October 24, 2023 under the theme: “The United Nations and the Government are committed to accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.” Cultural performances by local artists and the Indonesian contingent of MINUSCA, as well as an exhibition on the activities of the agencies of the United Nations System, colored the ceremony, placed under the sign of peace and sustainable development.

The official ceremony took place in Bangui in the presence of the Minister of State for Justice, the Promotion of Human Rights and Good Governance, Keeper of the Seals, Arnaud Djoubaye Abazene, and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Humanitarian Coordinator, Mohamed Ag Ayoya; of the diplomatic corps accredited in the CAR, as well as heads of agencies of the United Nations System, and numerous guests.

In his speech for the occasion, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, indicated that this year’s celebration takes place in a particularly critical context, particularly for the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. “We are running behind schedule. Our 2015 promises have not been kept. Only 15 percent of the Goals have been achieved to date,” he said.

Deputy Special Representative Ag Ayoya reiterated the willingness of the United Nations to work with the government to address existing challenges. “ We are resolutely committed to supporting the government in meeting these priority challenges. [de la mise en œuvre des Objectifs du Développement Durable ] with a view to guaranteeing prosperity to the populations”did he declare.

According to the Deputy Special Representative, the United Nations has made a significant contribution to promoting the civil, political, economic and social rights of populations; the restoration of State authority and the gradual return of peace to the country.

An effort recognized by the Minister of State for Justice, Djoubaye Abazene, who recognizes that the “the United Nations as a whole makes a significant contribution in terms of supporting peace, security and national reconciliation, access to basic social services, economic recovery and the revival of the productive sector”.

The peaceful resolution of disputes across the world, saving lives in danger, giving hope to future generations, boosting the development agenda and strengthening security are among others objectives set by the United Nations which has seen the day in 1948.
