All Britons over the age of 50 will be offered a third shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in the fall, with the aim of completely eradicating the epidemic threat by Christmas, The Times newspaper reports.
Trials of two options are underway, under the supervision of Chris Whitty, the director of British health services, the newspaper said.
The first involves vaccines specifically modified to tackle the new variants. The second relates to a third injection of one of the three vaccines already used: Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca or Moderna, specifies the newspaper.
In total, more than 34.6 million people in Britain have received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to government statistics released on Tuesday.
