The USA won the first edition of the United Cup. On the Italian night Trevisan succumbed in straight sets to Pegula, Musetti retired after losing the first set against Tiafoe and Matteo Berrettini lost in two tiebreaks with Taylor Fritz.
In the Italian night Martina Trevisan, WTA n.27, gave 64 62, in exactly an hour and a half of play, to Jessica Pegula, n.3 in the ranking, a result perhaps a little too severe for what was shown on the pitch from the blue at least in the first set.
Unlucky Lorenzo Musetti. The 20-year-old from Carrara, n.23 ATP, was forced to give way to Frances Tiafoe, n.19 in the ranking, retiring after just half an hour of the match and after losing the first set 6-2 due to a problem in the right shoulder.
Matteo Berrettini, n.16 ATP – who in this United Cup beat Monteiro and two top ten players like Ruud and Hurkacz, losing only to Tsitsipas – was overtaken by Taylor Fritz, n.9 in the ranking with the result of 76 (4) 76 (6).
Berrettini has always had difficulty in serving, nine break points canceled and no break points won, but he was good at bringing at least the fractions to the tiebreak even though he lost both partials.
No less than 15 Aces shot by the ATP number 9, who collected 87% of points when he served the first. 7 Matteo’s ACEs, who with the first one also had excellent yield percentages, canceling 9 breakpoints out of 9 as we said.
