“United Comics of Belgium”, an exhibition for the CBBD in (…)

The Belgian Comic Strip Center, like many cultural places, has not been very lucky this year, as the pandemic has affected three of the main sources of income for the institution: entrance tickets, reduced to zero for many months, rental rooms for seminars and companies made impossible because of Covid and transformed into videoconferences, finally the brewery and the bookstore whose activity has been reduced to nothing.

However, this private institution lives above all on these revenues and receives very little state support, unlike the Cité de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image, for example.

This is why the showcase of comics in Belgium is launching, in partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation, a sponsorship campaign to finance its next major exhibition: United Comics of Belgium, scheduled for March 2021.

This exhibition is intended to be ” a snapshot of creation, bubbling, diverse and multiple, contradictory, chaotic, innovative, promising, provocative, creative, artistic, rich, diverse and striking! Probably.

The objective is therefore to collect € 78,000 for the exhibition with, for each contributor domiciled in Belgium, the possibility until the end of 2020 of a much greater tax exemption than usual: 60% of deductibility from 40 € donation.

The Belgian Center has remained desperately empty in recent weeks.
