In general, the end of the leader does not necessarily mean the end of the project (see possible exchange of Jurečka for Výborný). But the fact is that for the public: Fiala = TOGETHER and TOGETHER = Fiala (while it doesn’t really matter who leads KDU-ČSL and TOP 09, if he doesn’t want to leave the coalition directly).
It would probably be possible to find someone. For example, Martin Kupka, who is popular and – unlike, for example, Jan Skopeček – is favored by Fiala.
But why should such a thing be done at all? It makes no sense to just replace one face with another and not change anything about the content of the policy. At the same time, the problem lies here – everyone who belongs to those who have a say in ODS today is also part of the problem.
It would either be taken by some hacker who would disband TOGETHER and set a clearly right-wing course (and thus take the wind out of Miroslav Kalouska’s sails), or the current lineup as a whole must once again find the will to win within itself.
Petr Fiala has linked his destiny with TOGETHER and is trying to keep it. Which makes sense. Voices that it should disband are still strongly in the minority in the ODS. Without Martin Kuba, who would bang his fist on the table, they don’t even have a face.
And it does not seem that he wants to leave the safe Budejovice governorship and risk the fight for the Straka Academy in Prague. A cosmetic change at the head of the civil democrats, in turn, requires a traitor within Fiala’s entourage. The king is weakened, not defeated.
