Twenty-four-year-old Martínez signed a five-year contract with United. In the team, the seven-time representative will meet coach Erik ten Hag, who brought him to Amsterdam three years ago.
Last season, Martínez played 36 games for Ajax and helped the club to the title. In addition, according to the media, his arrival in Manchester could threaten the position of United captain Harry Maguire, who became the target of criticism after an unsuccessful season.
For United, Martínez is already the third signing after Ten Hag joined the team. Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia arrived from Feyenoord and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen arrived as a free agent.
United finished sixth in the English league last season and only qualified for the Europa League. In addition, they conceded 57 goals and thus had the worst defense of the first six teams in the table.
