United Arab Emirates University Board of Trustees Holds First Meeting for Academic Year 2023-2024

ABU DHABI, 30 October / WAM / The Board of Trustees of the United Arab Emirates University, headed by His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President, Supreme President of the University, held its first meeting for the academic year 2023-2024, in the form of a two-day retreat in the city of Abu Dhabi.

The Council discussed global classification indicators and recommended procedures for inclusion in the university’s strategic plan that aims to enhance its academic and research performance, expand the scope of the university’s international accreditation and enhance its reputation, in addition to the policies and practices prevailing in the global higher education sector, to contribute to strengthening the university’s strategy for sustainable development.

The Council reviewed a number of current initiatives of the UAE government, related to the role of higher education in developing the knowledge economy in the country, to exchange views on the importance of financing higher education.

Regarding the university’s responsibility for risk management, the Board of Directors reviewed the university’s current risk management strategy, its risk profile and its readiness. The Chairman of the Council’s Academic and Student Affairs Committee presented a periodic report that included a number of recommendations, which were approved by the Council, namely launching a program in graduate studies specializing in educating the gifted and talented, establishing the Moza Bint Suhail Center for Outstanding Children, and changing the fees for master’s programs in the College of Education.

The Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee also presented a report on the reviews of the Internal and External Audit and Risk Management Committee.

The Council reviewed the university’s financial performance indicators for the third quarter of 2023 and the most important observations and recommendations, and the university’s audited financial statements for the last fiscal year 2022 were approved.
