United Arab Emirates Establishes Field Hospital in Gaza Strip for Palestinian Residents

The United Arab Emirates wants to establish a field hospital in the Gaza Strip. President Mohammed bin Zayed announced this. It must provide necessary medical assistance to the Palestinian residents of the war-ravaged coastal strip, state news agency Wam reported on Monday.

Five planes left Abu Dhabi with materials for the hospital. This would be delivered to the Egyptian city of Al-Arish and then taken to the Gaza Strip.

The field hospital will be equipped with 150 beds and will offer various forms of specialized medical care. With the initiative, the UAE shows its solidarity with the Palestinian people, “especially in view of the challenging circumstances they currently face.”

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, more than half of the 2.2 million residents of the Gaza Strip have had to leave their homes. Many have fled from the north, where fierce fighting is taking place, to the south of the region and are living in precarious conditions.

Aid organizations are calling it a humanitarian disaster. According to the health authorities of the extremist group Hamas that controls the Gaza Strip, hardly any hospitals are still operational. (Belga)
