The American airline United Airlines will introduce a new way to board passengers from Thursday. Thanks to the WILMA method, they can get on board up to two minutes faster.
Normally, aircraft are filled from front to back. First class, business class and premium board first, followed by economy: first who sits at the front of the plane and then who has a seat at the back.
In economy, United is changing the system. From now on, passengers seated near the window and emergency exits will board first. This is followed by who sits in the middle seat and finally passengers who have a seat on the center aisle board. This is evident from an internal memo that the news channel ‘ABC News’ was able to view. People on the same reservation – such as families – are still allowed to board together.
Tested
The WILMA method has already been tested on some domestic flights in the US. From now on, it will be used on domestic flights and a number of foreign flights. According to United, there is a greater need for efficiency as the time required to board has increased by two minutes since 2019.

Two minutes may not seem like a lot, but on shorter routes with heavy traffic, delays tend to build up gradually, causing late flights to fall further behind schedule.
The timing of the introduction of the new rule was not chosen by chance. The end-of-year season is coming, including Thanksgiving (November 23) and Christmas and New Year’s holidays. That is a very busy period for airlines, which often experience delays.
