United Airlines agrees to a new collective bargaining agreement with the pilots’ union

The US airline United Airlines (UAL) has reached an agreement in principle with its pilots union on new comprehensive terms for its collective agreement, according to the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA).

“Today, United Airlines pilots, represented by ALPA, announced an agreement in principle (AIP) with the company on comprehensive new terms for their collective agreement. In the coming weeks, the AIP will be finalized in contract language for consideration by the United Nations,” the union said.

The ALPA Executive Council added that “if accepted, the details will be released to all United pilots for final review and ratification by their members.”

“The professionalism of United pilots throughout these negotiations has been extraordinary, especially during the global pandemic and the greatest disruption in the history of commercial aviation,” said the head of the Council, Miguel Hamilton. “That approach has helped us reach a industry-leading agreement that recognizes our contributions to the current and future success of United Airlines.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest airline pilots’ union, representing more than 62,000 pilots in US and Canadian airlines, including 13,700 United Airlines pilots.
