UNITA celebrates 50 years of its youth branch, remembering the motto of the group’s creation – Jornal OPaís

The executive secretariat of the Permanent Committee of the UNITA Political Commission celebrated yesterday the 50th anniversary of the United Revolutionary Youth of Angola (JURA), the youth branch of ‘Galo Negro’. Founded in 1974 by Jonas Malheiro Savimbi in the town of Úria, Moxico, it was recognized by UNITA as an essential movement for Angolan youth in search of dignity, equality and social transformation.

In the statement made public during the event, UNITA pointed out that the ideals that inspired the creation of JURA are still current and encourage Angolan youth to be a “driving force” to build a more equitable future for the -all.

The path of the group was remembered with pride, naming historical figures such as David Jonatão Chingunji, known as “Samuibila”, the supporter of JURA, and Elias Salupeto Pena, the first president of the group.

UNITA took the opportunity to appeal to the Angolan Government for the immediate release of young activists who were in prison, defending dialogue as a way to resolve the demands and expectations of the country’s youth.

“With the spirit of Samuibila, JURA must put itself at the forefront of the transformations that Angola needs,” said the executive secretary of UNITA’s Political Commission, encouraging youth not to give up fighting for their rights and freedom .

The celebration confirmed UNITA’s commitment to promote JURA’s legacy and honored all the young people who, over five decades, contributed to the ideals of freedom and democracy in Angola.
