Now the mystery of Gregor Zünd’s successor has been solved: As the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) announced on Thursday, the hospital council has chosen Monika Jänicke to be the new head of the University Hospital Zurich. She will take up her duties on June 1, 2023.

From 2018 to early 2023, Monika Jänicke was Managing Director of Novartis in the key market of France. According to information from the university hospital, in a short space of time she was able to strategically and organizationally reposition the company in an extensive transformation project and to significantly increase profits.

«We are very pleased that in Ms. Jänicke we have been able to recruit a leader with an impressive track record and broad experience from a multicultural environment. She has all the qualities to lead the USZ into a successful future,” André Zemp, President of the Hospital Council, is quoted as saying in the communiqué.
