LOGROO, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)
The International University of La Rioja (UNIR) and Telefónica renew their commitment to the digital society and education. The UNIR student vice-rector, Adela Lpez Martínez, and the director of Telefónica, Beatriz Herranz, have signed an agreement in Logroo for the renewal of the Telefónica University-Business Chair – International University of La Rioja under a new name: “Digital Society and education”.
For Adela López, “education is a particularly important area from the point of view of the digitization process that affects all human activities, because young people, and students in general, must be made to see digital technologies as levers to make our societies more humane, that is to say, to use these technologies in a way that results in the good of people, especially the most disadvantaged”.
“The digital transformation of the educational process means knowing how to use technologies well to teach how to use them to those who have to make tomorrow’s society a more humane and just space for coexistence. I think this vision is shared by the two entities that sign this agreement he adds.
Currently, three out of four companies can no longer find the trained workers they need. The digital transition and the green transition will require the retraining of 20 million people. In this sense, education within the framework of our society is a key element in facing this challenge.
In the words of Beatriz Herranz, “combining technology and education and doing so ensuring excellence in the comprehensive training of young people called to lead a new digital society.”
“This -he affirms- is the challenge that we want to face together, adding the technological potential of Telefónica and the visionary innovative vocation of a University that breaks borders to make this new digital world a reality, which must be, above all, more humane and better This is how Telefónica understands the value of technology, as a very powerful tool in the hands of people to improve the lives of other people”.
Through figures such as this one from Ctedra, the University-business relationship (RUE) today acquires a special role as it has become a key element in the innovation policies promoted by many governments and implemented by companies.
Since its creation, this Chair has been significant in recent years for projects such as the UNIR-Telefónica Seminar Cycle on company digitization (2022), higher education (2022) and the participation of the elderly in digitization processes ( 2022, in collaboration with the UNIR-AENOR Chair); holding round tables on the digital society and education in crisis contexts (2021); the release of online courses (EduHack, 2020) and the organization of an associated hackathon (EduHackathon, 2019); and the annual participation in different conferences organized by Telefónica, since 2015.
