Uniquely-Shaped Building Sparks Controversy on Social Media in Egypt

With a width of no more than two meters and a length of 12 floors, a uniquely shaped building in one of the governorates of Egypt has sparked controversy on social media over the past few days.

Pictures of the building located in the middle of Shehabiya Square, the most famous square in Damietta Governorate, achieved wide spread on social media, and were described as resembling an “LCD” screen due to its small width.

Numerous signs of doctors and private clinics invade its façade, while the width of the building is barely enough for one small balcony, when you see it or take a picture of it from a certain angle, it appears like this, so the question remains about its shape from the inside, and how the design of the architecture can be so strikingly strange.

It turned out that the building is not inhabited by any families, as it is an administrative building only, and is considered one of the distinctive buildings in the region, according to what Hisham Shaaban, the property guard, told Al-Arabiya.net, pointing out that the areas of the apartments range between 60 and 80 meters and that one floor has 6 apartments.

Shaaban indicated that the building was built in 2011-2012, attributing the reason for the strange shape of the building to the angle it was taken so that it would be far from the oil station adjacent to it in order to preserve its security.

Comments on the building’s photos were not devoid of a sense of humor mixed with questions and sarcasm at times, as one of them said, “Technology does not leave a need.” While another commented, “How do people live in this triangle?” and other comments.
