Indeed, if the country still has nearly 16,000 water towers according to specialists on the subject, their number undoubtedly falls below a hundred when we talk about habitable constructions of this type. This concrete tube on rue du Fief-Trochet, built in 1960, fell on a good fairy in 2015, as Le Courrier de l’Ouest reminds us. Rozenn Roussel, real estate agent, and her husband Nicolas, fell under the spell of this outdated building which the city wanted to sell for 9,000 euros. However, they are familiar with atypical real estate since they live not far from there, in Beauvoir-sur-Niort, in a former shoe factory.
But to make a cozy nest from this “champagne cork”, it took a lot of imagination and a lot of work. The building was thus lined with a metal structure, a real double skin in order to create three floors for a real triplex which dominates the Tour-Chabot district, from its height of 14 meters. Furthermore, a whole set of windows with electric shutters was created in this structure which naturally had very few openings, given its original purpose. An operation which also required a concrete study to ensure its feasibility.
