Roger Federer is playing his third game of the season against fellow veteran Pablo Andujar in Geneva. It is the first meeting between two experienced rivals and one that the Spaniard will never forget, ready to tell his children and grandchildren about it!
Pablo had to skip 13 months in 2016 and 2017 due to an injury, rebounding and knowing exactly how difficult it is for Roger to overcome serious knee problems and two surgeries in February and May of last year.

Pablo Andujar has shared his thoughts on playing Roger Federer for the first time.
“I am really excited. It was something I wanted to play against Roger just to tell my kids and grandchildren when I’m older than I played it. This is something I was looking for.
I played against Rafa and Novak, and I had to close this circle; I knew I wouldn’t have many opportunities as the years go by. I am also very excited to play against Roger in Switzerland.
I think when you play Rafa, Novak and Roger these guys have become myths. They are something above sport. Of course, Roger’s elegance is something unique, and it is in all tennis schools; you see it with the technique and everything.
I would say the most important thing is that they developed the sport and now they are above the sport. I have sympathy for all the players who have struggled with long term injuries, and of course Roger is one of them.
I know how hard it is because sometimes you try to come back and then it hurts. At least that was the case for me, and you have a lot of doubts; it’s a challenge for your mindset.
But I think with the level he’s got and how he’s playing, if he’s 100% fit, he’ll be Roger Federer again. In that sense, it probably won’t be as difficult as it has been for me to come back to my level.
Of course, when you come back after a long time without playing, you don’t feel the same as when you have played a lot of games in recent weeks. But we are talking about Roger Federer and not Pablo Andujar, which probably makes the big difference.
