Unique! Researchers Create Game Boy Console Without Batteries

Game Boy Battery

Telset.id, Jakarta – Researchers continue to innovate to create unique and environmentally friendly technologies. One of them is creating a console device game boy without battery but using solar power.

Reported Telset.id from Engadget on Wednesday (09/09/2020), computer science researchers from Northwestern University in Illinois, United States and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands have developed the game boy without battery.

Instead, the console called Engage Game Boy uses solar power. Engage is equipped with a solar panel located on the front of the device.

For charging, this game boy must be dried in the sun before it can finally be played. Engage also has a special button that you can press if you want to get additional power to keep the game boy on.

Unfortunately, this device still has weaknesses that must be improved. For example the device can last for 10 seconds and can recover in less than 1 second by pressing the special button.

In addition, Engage is not supported by audio devices, so there are no sound effects in the game. Even so, this game is equipped with a storage memory, so you can save your game and continue it again easily.

One of the researchers, Josiah Hester, said that this console is still in the development stage and is their attempt to create a battery-free console device.

“This could not have happened even four or five years ago,” said Josiah.

It is planned that Josiah and his team will present their findings at the UbiComp conference on September 15, 2020. After that Engage will continue to be developed in order to create a batteryless and environmentally friendly console device.

Please note that the game boy is a legendary console device that has been known for a long time. Originally the game boy was developed by Nintendo in 1989 and at that time it was sold at a price of USD $ 89.95 or Rp 1.3 million.

At that time the game boy was synonymous with Nintendo games such as Super Mario Land, Tetris and so on. [NM/HBS]
