Unique Requests and Trends in the Luxury Car Market at GIIAS 2023 Jakarta

There are several unique requests from high-end car buyers. From the wish to have a special number plate to the unit handover ceremonial event.

The man with the initials R, one of the salespeople for luxury cars at GIIAS 2023, said that many of his customers ordered RF license plates like those used by officials.

“In the past there were many, but now you can’t. There used to be someone who asked for RF plates, they paid for it, but you can’t,” he said when met at ICE BSD Tangerang, Banten.

“Ask for it to be sent for a birthday, the car is tied up, there are also those who buy a lot asking to be lined up,” he said.

On the other hand, despite being in the upper middle class car segment. Many consumers also ask for car merchandise bonuses.

“At the exhibition there is (ask for a discount). Normally there are also those who ask for umbrellas, accessories. It depends on the consumer,” he explained.

At the GIIAS 2023 exhibition this time, luxury car sales admitted that they sold more units when the auto show rolled on.

“Yes (sales have increased), for sure 10 days can be (equivalent to) one to two months’ SPK. One month, a sales person usually produces 10 units. That’s the minimum,” he said.

The brand sold by R is the mainstay brand for officials. He also revealed that usually government officials who make purchases do not come alone but are represented.

“Usually the officials don’t direct the SPK, they usually tell other people or their staff. It’s public image,” he said.

On the other hand, R also revealed the ups and downs of selling luxury cars in Indonesia. The fun thing about this segment is that rich people make repeat purchases more often, or even add more units. But it’s not uncommon for many to cancel orders because of car pivots.

“It’s easy and difficult. When I’m at GIIAS, it’s easy. The difficulty is that it takes a long time because we are still CBU. There are those who cancel if it’s too late,” he said.
