I always say that if you are serious about your love of technology, you admire not only cars, but also motorcycles or even airplanes. And when someone takes inspiration from the glorious past and simultaneously combines the best of multiple worlds, absolutely charming machines can be created. One of them is the latest unique motorcycle with the famous emblem in Bavarian colors.
The motorcycle division of BMW Motorrad has teamed up with specialists from VTR Motorrad & Customs to jointly pay tribute to the legendary transport and transport aircraft Junkers Ju 52 nicknamed “Iron Annie”. They thus created a unique motorcycle with the appropriate name BMW R 18 Iron Annie.
Although BMW did not publish the official technical data of the unique car, the basic R18 is equipped with a huge 1.8-liter twin-cylinder with 92 horsepower (68 kW) and 157 newton meters. Thanks to his strong heart, he drives at a maximum speed of 179 kilometers per hour.
The designers from VTR Motorrad & Customs were inspired by the characteristic corrugated aluminum sheets of the Junkers Ju 52 and dressed the entire motorcycle in aluminum clothes. Visible inspiration from a historical aircraft is also evidenced by the exposed rivets and the tail-like rear part. The black painting of the engine and all originally chrome components is also special.
No spinning propeller!
Many attribute the shape of the BMW emblem to its aviation past, but in fact the alternation of blue and white corresponds to the official colors of the automaker’s home state of Bavaria.
Discreet improvements are also a 7-centimeter shorter front fork, a height-adjustable Wilbers rear shock absorber, a recalibrated speedometer or 18- and 21-inch Kineo wheels. The manufacturer just adds that one of the big challenges of the BMW R 18 Iron Annie project was to shape unconventional components into a wonderful final result.
And it really succeeded! The R18 Iron Annie is a great one-of-a-kind – which unfortunately also means that if you fell in love with it (like we did), you have to let it go.
