Unions demonstrate in Draguignan to demand better wages

Teachers, railway workers, health personnel, there were a hundred to demonstrate this Thursday morning in front of the sub-prefecture of Draguignan.

At the call of an inter-union made up of the CGT, the FSU, Solidaires and the Unsa, the demonstrators demand an increase in wages and retirement pensions.

Purchasing power and working conditions

Among them, Thomas, 35, is exasperated. “With a minimum wage and the charges that accumulate, it is no longer manageable”he said. “And there, in addition with the increase in electricity, gas, fuel and the madness of fuels, we are suffocating.”

An observation also shared by the officials present in the Dracénois procession. “It has been more than fifteen years since the index point for the remuneration of civil servants has been frozen”recalls Coline Rozerot, teacher and member of the FSU. “Before the war in Ukraine and the surge in energy prices, we lost 15 to 20% of purchasing power.”

A situation that worsened with a fuel price per liter more than two euros. Beyond the question of wages, the demonstrators also denounce a deterioration of their working conditions and the repeated ransacking of the public service and the civil service.

“Everything relates to the private sector and precariousness, in particular with the Dussopt law in 2019 which provides for 20% of contract workers in the various public functions”, deplores Nicolas Caritey, teacher in Lorgues and inserted at Sud Education.

At his side is his colleague, Catherine Jouanneau. Also at Sud Éducation, the teacher deplores the deterioration of working conditions:

“We are poorly paid and in addition we have no recognition”, she laments. “We are treated like shit with increasingly crowded classes, and reforms that take away all meaning from our function.”

When the question of the thawing of the point of index of the public service envisaged in the summer by the government, the trade unionist laughs yellow. “We can see that the government is campaigning.”

The night closure of emergencies at the heart of the discussions

On the sidelines of the demonstration for the revaluation of wages, the members of the collective “Emergency in the night emergencies of the Dracénie hospital”, challenged passers-by in front of the sub-prefecture, then on Place Cassin.

“We are in the 21st week of mobilization” sighs Frédéric Duthé, flyers in hand.

The members take the opportunity to have the petition signed in favor of the reopening of the service to the public at night.

And to announce that a new day of mobilization is planned today, in the presence of the singer HK, at 6 p.m.
